Our History

Our church was founded in 1952 by a small group of believers meeting in a local home. After a few years the congregation grew to several families and a venue was needed, The first Baptist church of Hometown was founded in 1963 in the woods near Dover and 49. Over the decades, we’ve grown into a vibrant congregation rooted in Scripture and service..

In 1985, Don Vincent, then our pastor, Planted a tomato garden in the back of the church. The garden fluorished and was expanded to the extent that it was decided that church members would be given free tomoatoes during the summer months. This practice went on for several years and because of this he church lovingly became known as “the tomato church. The giving away of free tomoatoes spread to the local community and the congregation grew from 20 to well over 100. The church has vastly grown since then so there is no longer a large tomato garden feeding the community free tomatoes, but a small garden is still kept to commemorate that history.
